Reflection on the viewpoints

My view and portrayal on walking the space two weeks ago and walking the space now have changed drastically. The first day we did viewpoints I was very stiff and had no idea how walking round in circles would help my performance or directing skills. After the first class, I began to loosen up and every walking the space task felt easier, less tense and I took each one as performances in my own right. Following the different prompts each class became more interesting and I didn't just see what I was doing as "walking around aimlessly", but I noe saw the difference between each prompt, viewpoint or intruction. I learnt about levels and how they can be multiple things like speed, height, size and how you move on the stage.     After doing the viewpoint on levels, I began to understand the importance of positoning on a stage and after that, I would unconsciously apply this concept into my other walking the space activities when I felt it was necessary. Another ...

Walk The Space Reflection

At the beginning of class our movements were a bit more stiff and aimless, but after switching through different types of movement and body language, repeating the same exercise became easier and a lot more natural than at the start.  I also noticed the different styles in which we moved according to the prompt.

Theatre Experience

I was exposed to theatre in 4th grade when i was in Nigeria. The first play I ever auditioned for was the annual end of year Christmas play about Mary, Joseph and the birth of Jesus. Having never performed before, I was a bit nervous about getting a big role but i performed nevertheless and my teacher loved it. I got he role of King Herod over all the 5th and 6th graders which was amazing, and from there my journey started. I starred in every single school play from then on, wether it was a musical or regular play. In my early stages of theatre, I would say what helped me was my projection, ability to improvise and portrayal of the characters I played.      Moving in to a new school and higher grade, I started doing British theatre. I would be asked to read numerous scripts from Shakespeare plays, and be asked to perform the next day. I loved performing plays by Shakespeare because even though there are alot of lines, there are so many different choice...

Memorable Theatre Moments

Macbeth In 2019 January I participated in the Shakespeare class play. Each group chose a famous play written by him and performed it the next day. I joined the Macbeth play and throughout the time to prepare and learn our lines, I was learning the lines of both King Duncan and Macbeth, just in case, the person playing King Duncan didn't show up. The next day, to no surprise the person playing King Duncan didn't show up so I started thinking about how we would do the stabbing scene. So for the Macbeth role, we dressed a random kid in all black and a mask so his identity would be unknown and carried out the scene with me as King Duncan. Then after the scene, I reprised my role as Macbeth and an unexpected round of applause emerged from the audience. After the play, I began to hear new speculations of whether my dual role represented King Duncan's death as self-sabotage and it was interesting to see.
