Research Project- Tradition and Convention

Tradition: Commedia Dell'arte Performance Convention: Money scene with Columbina      I have decided to pick Commedia Dell'arte as my tradition for a couple reasons. The first one is my background in Commedia Dell'arte. I started learning about it when I was in sixth grade and have progressvley learnt more and more about for the last four years. My second reason is the comedic aspect of the tradition. Commedia Dell'arte explores disgarceful love journeys and clever scheming individuals. The range of comdey available to explore is very intriguing to me. Masks are also a huge part of this tradition and since I'll be taking on the roll of Pantalone, my mask will be on ehtat sports a long nose with thick eyebrows and a beard.

Movement Profile

I walk heel to toe and have long strides. I also have minimal arm swings and walk slower depending on my mood. This may be due to my height and sometimes the shoe I am wearing plays a role in how I walk, to prevent creasing.  Why are the body and voice significant in theatrical performance? In theater, using your body and voice serves as a means of communication with the audience to help support the script of the play, and also highlight the themes in the play. What demands are placed on performers' bodies and voices during the performance? I think body and voice flexibility is critical for a good performance. How do performers  Activity     Try and combine movement and voice     We could not simultaneously yell.

Pipeline by Dominique Morisseau

This play by Domonique Morriseau explores the American education system from a deeper perspective with respect to underprivileged students. The lead character is Nya, who is a high school teacher and mother to Omari, who goes to a private boarding school. Nya works in a less privileged high school and has made it her life mission to make sure Omari has a better education than her students are getting. Omari gets into a fight with a teacher in his school, and in an attempt to settle the issue, Omari thinks about running away from school and tells Jasmine, and his dad Xavier comes back into his life and tries to help him.

Reflection

Even though we haven't finished our project, I have a concept as to what it is going to look like when we finish it. We have done multiple run-throughs and made adjustments and editions to improve it. So far I love how we have been able to build a whole story from scratch while only using the topic of "social status", and I like how we have been able to have fun but stay on task. We have all made contributions to the piece and have shown maximum effort with all stunts. The main part of TPB we are using is verbatim, we have not really worried about verbatim, as the topic we're doing is relatable and it will be easy for us to talk about these topics. In the begining, I really had no idea what we were doing, but I realized that this type of theatre is free to interpretation, and you can use different forms of theater and methods of performance to express yourself. I never thought we would be able to tell a story about social class using horror and action, but we have ma...
