 The Dark Knight: Monologue by the Joker

What did I learn?: In choosing this monologue, I had to dive deep into my style of theater and think of pieces I would enjoy performing. I learned that performing scenes with increasing tension and suspense is where my interest lied. After learning this, choosing a monologue embodying these traits was my new task


What did I do well in?: I 100% feel that this monologue is one of the best performances I have ever done, the versatility of Heath Ledger's the Joker is a huge task to take upon, and as much as I feel like with props and more theatrical effects it would be better, I think I did a good job. With help from my classmates and teacher, I was able to make the decision to merge both monologues I had chosen and blend them into this perfect performance.


What was difficult: Like I mentioned earlier, the versatility and bipolar traits of Heath Ledger's Joker were a huge task to tackle. The sudden mood switches from menacing happiness to sinister laughs, to heinous comments and actions, embodying this character was quite difficult. I had to mentally prepare myself to act insane and out of control. 


What do I need to work on?: Listening back to my recording, I think I need to work on the clarity of my lines. I also need to try to make sure I use one accent throughout without switching from British to American mid-performance.

 I apologize for not turning this in I did not see it :(      Emotion and movement- From the first monologue of the play there is so much movement and it is where it may look like random dance moves, these movements show the emotions of the characters. Initially seeing this, I was curious as to why there were so many people on the stage during a monologue and why they were moving around like they were dodging the light, but it turned out they were just the remaining cast members carrying out movements for the character in the spotlight. I also noticed how with specific movements in Rosie's monologue, when she talked about her family there were multiple people hugging her and the movements were able to tell me the relationship between each person, as it showed emotion and was able to tell a story. Pipeline by Dominique Morisseau

 This play by Domonique Morriseau explores the American education system from a deeper perspective with respect to underprivileged students. The lead character is Nya, who is a high school teacher and mother to Omari, who goes to a private boarding school. Nya works in a less privileged high school and has made it her life mission to make sure Omari has a better education than her students are getting. Omari gets into a fight with a teacher in his school, and in an attempt to settle the issue, Omari thinks about running away from school and tells Jasmine, and his dad Xavier comes back into his life and tries to help him.
